WHAT IS COB LED?

The Next Generation of Fine-Pitch LED Displays

Chip-on-Board (COB) LED technology mounts multiple LED chips directly onto the display module and protects them beneath a durable surface layer. The result is a seamless direct-view LED display designed for exceptional image quality at increasingly fine pixel pitches.

Compared with traditional SMD LED technology, COB offers improved durability, excellent contrast, wider viewing angles and greater protection against impact, dust and moisture — making it particularly well suited to high-resolution professional installations.

With pixel pitches now available below 1mm, COB LED video walls can deliver extremely high resolutions at close viewing distances for corporate, higher education, broadcast, control room and premium visualization applications.

Why Integrators Are Moving Toward COB

Traditional SMD LED displays use individually packaged LEDs mounted to the surface of the module. COB technology mounts the LED chips directly to the module and protects them beneath an integrated surface layer.

This architecture allows COB displays to achieve increasingly fine pixel pitches while providing improved durability, excellent contrast and greater protection against physical damage.

SMD remains an effective solution for many LED applications, but COB is particularly well suited to close-viewing, high-resolution installations where image quality, reliability and long-term performance are priorities.
